The community of Extremadura is located in Western Spain, just east of Portugal. This region, which is home to one of my favorite Spanish cities – Caceres, used to be part of the ancient Roman province of Lusitania (along with Portugal). Its capital city, Mérida, was in fact one of the most important cities in the Roman Empire. The region is also the source of many important Spanish conquerors. And apparently, yet another language is can be found here – Extremaduran – spoken by several thousand people in the region. I tell ya, Spain is the land of a million languages.
