Last week, Spain celebrated El Día de la Hispanidad, AKA Spain Day, AKA my birthday! To pay tribute to the Spanish holiday (OK, maybe my birthday), my mom came from the US and we headed to Croatia. Our one-stop trip to Dubrovnik turned into a three-country tour of the Balkans. Yeah. So while I play catch up, I wanted to give you all a little preview of the sweet, mom-funded holiday. More to come soon!

View of Dubrovnik from our hotel, Villa Dubrovnik.

Pretending to write, but instead distracted by the view. Can you blame me?

Does indeed look gorgeous. Very noble of you to pass up on the opportunity to milk your serendipitous birthday for all its worth back in Spain!

The photos are absolutely breathtaking. I must say, I am jealous. I want to go to Croatia someday. But I shall…

Brilliant photographs with beautiful light and warm colours! I’m also especially fond of the photo of the “family” of vacant stools against the wall in the pub in Kotor. Thanks for your post!

Mums are good to have, aren’t they? (At least, that’s what I tell my daughters 🙂 Such an interesting part of the world, the Balkans. Love all these three countries.

I went to Croatia for my honeymoon, and also stayed at Villa Dubrovnik. Our room overlooked a gorgeous wooded island off the coast and humming birds used to flit around the flowers on our balcony while we had breakfast. When they found out we were on our honeymoon, they gave us champagne and scattered bougainvillea petals all over the bed. Only thing I didn’t like was sea was rough for swimming in, no pool. Can’t wait to read more about your trip, especially Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro, as would love to revisit that area, and take kids.

Happy Birthday!!! 3 countries in 1 week is pretty fabulous. I did that last year I went to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. Your pics are fabulous, but I want to see more of you!

Wow you get around! I don’t mean that in the sell-your-body-kind-of-sense either! Lovely photos of Croatia, you’ll almost making me want to shirk my Spanish dream!

  11. Erin Says:

Thanks, all – the landscape in the Balkans is truly spectacular, making it pretty hard to take a bad photo!

And Will – the food in that part of the world was less than impressive, so keep with the Spanish dream if you want to eat well!

I studied abroad with a boy from Montenegro, and an unfamiliarity with this tiny country has always made me want to go exploring there. Your beautiful shots aren’t helping my wanderlust!

  13. Sabrina Says:

Very cool! I love the sea, so of course I can’t resist dreaming a little when I see pictures like these. I love the picture of the Montenegro pub by the way. It’s beautiful!

You are lucky enough to see all those places…lovely photographs buddy. I love the picture of Montenegro pub.
